CDL Training
Corporate employee? Newcomer to the industry? The increasing needs of the trucking industry offer abundant opportunities to individuals entering the workforce or those seeking to change to a rewarding truck driver career. Our Commercial Transportation Training Center (CTTC) offers CDL Class A and Class B programs, as well as our Tractor-Trailer Refresher program. Information about our programs is outlined below.
Classroom and Yard Work Locations
- All classroom work is conducted at the Brinkman Educational Center (BEC) in downtown Springfield.
- All yard work is conducted at our eight-acre lot located at 352 Tremont City Road, Springfield, Ohio.
*All tuition costs include physical, drug screen, CDL permit, CDL test and CDL license fees in addition to all truck driver training materials.
CDL A Truck Driver - Weekday Training Program
Weekday Training Program
This four-week truck driver course runs Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and starts with 40 hours of classroom instruction that includes, but aren't limited to, hazmat training, log books and hours of service, coupling and uncoupling, vehicle inspection, map reading and trip planning, defensive driving practices, job search training and job placement assistance. Another 120 hours are dedicated to truck training.
Road and range training is designed to allow students to develop their truck driver skills in a controlled environment. These skills consist of: pre-trip inspections, backing skills, coupling/uncoupling of a tractor trailer, safe driving techniques and all other training as required for operation of commercial motor vehicles in accordance with the Ohio Administration Code 4501-7-11. Skills are tested by a certified CDL examiner.
The over-the-road driving portion of the truck driver program consists of training on all types of roads: city, county, state and interstate highways. This will allow our students to get valuable experience in handling a tractor-trailer in all types of traffic situations. Class size ranges from 15 students, which allows our school to provide the individual training that might be needed by our students. The cost of the four-week truck driver program is $6,000.*
CDL A Truck Driver - Weekend Training Program
Weekend Training Program
The weekend training program is a six-week truck driver course that is held on Saturdays and Sundays, 6:30 a.m.-5 p.m. The course content for the weekend training program is identical to the weekday program above, with the exception of the weekend training program having 80 hours of road and range training. The cost of the six-week truck driver program is also $6,000.*
CDL B Endorsement Program
This 80-hour program starts with 40 hours of classroom. Another 40 hours is dedicated to Class B road and range training. Class B testing is conducted on the last day of class. The cost of the program is $3,750.
Range work is designed to allow students to develop their driver skills in a controlled environment. These skills consist of: pre-trip inspections, parallel parking, alley dock, straight line backing skills and reverse lane change.
The over-the-road driving portion of the program consists of training on all types of roads: city, county, state and interstate highways. This will allow students to get valuable experience in handling a Class B vehicle in all types of traffic situations. Class size ranges from nine to fifteen students, which allows our school to provide the individual training that might be needed by our students.
Tractor-Trailer Refresher Program
This three-week course is for experienced truck drivers who hold a valid Class "A" CDL and need to refresh their skills prior to going back to work. The course runs Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and consists of 120 hours of road and range training. The cost of the three-week program is $3,500.*
Commercial Motor Vehicle Operator Safety Training (CMVOST) Grant Program
The Commercial Motor Vehicle Operator Safety Training (CMVOST) discretionary (competitive) grant program seeks to reduce the severity and number of crashes on our Nation’s roads involving CMVs by expanding the number of commercial driver’s license (CDL) holders possessing enhanced operator safety training. The priority set by Congress is to assist entities that recruit and train those who fall within the following underserved communities.
