The Central State University Choir will perform at the Clark State Performing Arts Center, 300 South Fountain Avenue, on Thursday, February 4, 2016, at 7:30 p.m. as part of Clark State’s Black History Month celebration.

Corey Holliday, director of community outreach for Clark State, said the free annual concert–now in its third year–came together as a collaboration between the two college presidents.

The highly acclaimed Central State University Chorus, under the direction of Professor Jeremy Winston, has a repertoire encompassing all periods and styles, including spirituals of African Americans, gospel and jazz. The main chorus consists of more than 100 students from all academic disciplines and has a repertoire encompassing all periods and styles.

Holliday encourages the community to attend and “enjoy the experience that is the Central State choir.” Approximately 600 people attended last year’s performance.

“This is a free show that is powerful and moving,” said Holliday. “They are awesome, and everyone will be in for a treat.”

Located in Wilberforce, Ohio, Central State University has served as a launching pad for many outstanding singers of international renown including Leontyne Price, Roberta Alexander and Nancy Wilson.
