Clark State College to Host Welcome Back Events, Offer Covid Vaccine Clinics for Students

August 12, 2021

Clark State College will hold a fall semester “Welcome Back” event for new and returning students from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 25 at the main campus in Springfield and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 31 at the Greene Center location in Beavercreek.

“This event has several different purposes,” said Justin McCulla, director of athletics and student life for Clark State. “One is for the students to get an opportunity to hangout and meet other students. Another purpose is for community and college-wide resources to be available for our students.”

Students will be able to learn more about the resources and activities offered at Clark State. The event will include: campus tours, student resources, organizations and clubs, career services, student worker positions, an on campus Job Fair, complimentary breakfast, and a Covid-19 vaccination clinic.

“The health and safety of our Clark State community is our priority. We are pleased to provide convenient access to vaccinations on campus for our students, faculty and staff. Classes will be in session – so we anticipate high participation,” said Nina Wiley, dean of student engagement and support services for Clark State.

The Clark County Combined Health District (CCCHD) will be on campus to provide the vaccines for both events. The vaccinations are free and will be administered by the CCCHD. The CCCHD will be available to answer questions and provide both Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

“We can get vaccinations started for any of our students, faculty, and staff,” said Wiley. “If an individual chooses Pfizer they can schedule their second shot while on campus.”

The Welcome Back event on August 25 will be held in the TLC rotunda on the main campus at 570 East Leffel Lane, Springfield. The Welcome Back event on August 31 will be held on the second floor of the Greene Center location, 3775 Pentagon Boulevard, Beavercreek.

McCullla said Clark State student leaders have done an amazing job of planning the Welcome Back events and that Clark State faculty and staff are excited to be “reunited” with students.

“Reunited” is also the theme of this year’s Convocation which will be held Monday, August 16. Convocation will offer both in-person and virtual options for faculty and staff.

“Clark State is getting ‘back to better,’” said Dr. Jo Alice Blondin, president of Clark State. “We are reunited as One Clark State. Enrollment is up. Buildings and spaces are being renovated. Community Colleges are at the forefront of policy discussions and investments in Congress, the White House, and the Ohio Legislature. While we have weathered hardships, now is our time.  This year’s convocation theme, ‘Reunited,’ also reflects the significant changes we have undergone during this COVID-impacted 18 months.”
