Clark State College will continue hosting monthly mobile food pantry services at two campus locations through the end of the semester.
The Second Harvest Food Bank of Clark, Champaign and Logan Counties mobile food pantry will be available to those in need every other Tuesday from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. at Clark State’s main campus, 570 East Leffel Lane, Springfield.
With the current Covid-19 outbreak Second Harvest Food Bank has implemented a “drive-thru pantry” program. The drive-through pantry will be available again on February 2 and 16, followed by every other Tuesday through May. More dates may be added. From October 2020 through January of 2021, the Second Harvest Food Bank mobile food pantry has served 4,777 individuals from 1,931 households at the Clark State location; of the 1,931 households 203 are new to the service.
Tyra Jackson, executive director for Second Harvest Food Bank, said that having a location such as Clark State that people can depend on is important. She expects the numbers to remain high for the next 12-18 months.
“Clark State is pleased to partner with Second Harvest Food Bank to provide a consistent distribution location for our community members,” said Nina Wiley, dean of student engagement and support services at Clark State. “Food insecurity is a growing challenge, and we are committed to addressing the needs of individuals and families in our community.”
The Dayton Foodbank mobile pantry will be available to those in need on the first Wednesday of each month from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. through May at the Clark State Greene Location, 3775 Pentagon Park Boulevard, Beavercreek.
Natalie Johnson, associate dean of Clark State College Greene County locations, said in 2020, 675 households utilized the Dayton Foodbank mobile food pantry with 87,196 pounds of food distributed; and the usage of the mobile food pantry continues to increase.
“It has been a challenging time for our community,” said Johnson. “We are grateful for the partnerships with our local food panty to provide healthy food for our students and the families in our community.”
