Clark State Community College will host a group of 15-20 Science Olympiad students from West Liberty-Salem High School in Champaign County on Monday, February 22, from 4-6 p.m. Mark Schmidt, associate professor of anatomy and physiology at Clark State, will present a session for the students that will include a pig heart dissection, pig lung demonstration/dissection as well as a cadaver room tour and discussion about the cadaver and various human organs.   

“The Science Olympiad students from West Liberty-Salem High School are dedicated students with a real interest in the sciences, and I look forward to sharing with them the unique science programs and labs we have at Clark State,” said Schmidt. “I am especially excited to showcase our cadaver dissection lab, as we are one of the very few schools in Ohio to have the ability to see and dissect human cadavers in an undergraduate setting.”

Science Olympiad is a team-oriented competition for students interested in the sciences and is dedicated to improve the awareness of Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
