The Clark State Performing Arts Center has the cure for your cabin fever this winter. With entertainment events ranging from Broadway to the blues, Old Man Winter doesn’t stand a chance against the likes of Annie, Vocalosity or Mamma Mia!

Clark State kicks off February with an exciting Black History Month performance by the Central State Choir on Thursday, February 4 at 7:30 p.m. Enjoy the passionate vocals and raw young talent of the Central State Choir under the direction of Jeremy Scott Winston. Winston and the highly acclaimed CSU Chorus is admired locally for their beautiful styles of African American spiritual, gospel and jazz music. Admission is free, but tickets are required.

For family members of all ages, the Clark State Performing Arts Center and Springfield Arts Council co-present the Broadway National Tour of Annie at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 10. This classic musical returns in time-honored form. Directed by original lyricist and director Martin Charnin and choreographed by Liza Gennaro, Annie will be a brand new incarnation of the iconic original. Featuring book and score by Tony Award®-winners Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin, Annie includes such unforgettable songs as “It’s the Hard Knock Life,” “Easy Street,” “I Don’t Need Anything But You,” plus the eternal anthem of optimism, “Tomorrow.” Tickets range from $32 to $52.

Less than one month after the release of their debut album, the sensational a cappella group Vocalosity will bring their unique talents to the Clark State Performing Arts Center. An all-new live concert event from the creative mind of producer Deke Sharon (Pitch Perfect, The Sing-Off), Vocalosity features 12 dynamic voices singing some of today’s chart-topping hits, and a variety of other music genres, in new arrangements.

“With the success of his movie Pitch Perfect and his hit show The Sing-Off, Deke Sharon saw an opening for a musically-charged, fun-laced tour promoting the art form he holds near and dear—a cappella. When I heard about the tour last year, I knew I wanted to bring them to Springfield,” said Adele Adkins, executive director of the Clark State Performing Arts Center.

Vocalosity will perform at 7:30 p.m., Friday, February 12. Tickets are $35. Vocalosity is part of the Club Kuss Series sponsored by Plato and Tina Pavlatos.

Ailey II will perform at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 9 at the Clark State Performing Arts Center. Ailey II merges the spirit and energy of the country’s best young dance talent with the passion and creative vision of today’s most outstanding emerging choreographers. Started in 1974 as the Alvin Ailey Repertory Ensemble, the company embodies Mr. Ailey’s pioneering mission to establish an extended cultural community that provides dance performances, training and community programs for all people. The company has received numerous honors in recognition of its residencies at major colleges and universities as well as its visits to elementary, middle and high schools across the U.S. The company will be performing Alvin Ailey’s signature work, REVELATIONS.

Save the date to relax and enjoy a Greek island paradise with the cast of the National Broadway Tour’s Mamma Mia! at 7:30 p.m., Monday, March 14. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter’s quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother’s past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago. The story-telling magic of ABBA’s timeless songs propels this enchanting tale of love, laughter and friendship, and every night everyone’s having the time of their lives. Co-presented with the Springfield Arts Council, tickets for Mamma Mia! range from $32 to $58.

Rani Arbo & Daisy Mayhem in an American Spiritual will take the stage at 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 18. This charismatic quartet administers songs and tales that explore and revive the human spirit. From a lush setting of Tennyson’s “Crossing the Bar” to old American shape note hymns, prison work songs, blues, gospel and original compositions, American Spiritual draws from 200 years of music roots to find songs that uplift and connect.
