Clark State’s Champion City Scholars Program Awards 41 Eighth Graders with Free College Tuition

November 3, 2014

The Clark State Foundation, in partnership with the Springfield City School District, will award free tuition at Clark State Community College to 41 eighth graders this week through the Champion City Scholars Program. The induction ceremony for the Class of 2014 is Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center.

Clark State’s Champion City Scholars serves low-income middle school students who will become the first in their families to earn a college degree. Upon their graduation from Springfield High School, selected students will be eligible for up to three years of college at Clark State - at no cost.

Scholars are selected after completing the application process, including an interview with the representatives of the Springfield City School District, Clark State and community leaders. They also work with volunteer mentors from the eighth grade through their third year of college.

While the program is supportive of students and families, it also requires commitment. Students must attend school regularly, exhibit good citizenship, demonstrate satisfactory progress in classes, attend Champion City Scholars Program activities, enroll in college preparatory classes in high school and complete their education within the Springfield City Schools.

Contributors to the Champion City Scholars provide life-changing educational opportunities with far-reaching impact.
