Clark State Theatre Arts Program Will Hold Auditions for Angels in America, Part 2

August 29, 2016

The Clark State Community College Theatre Arts Program will hold auditions for Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes, Part 2 – Perestroika, at 7 p.m., September 6 in the Turner Studio of the Clark State Performing Arts Center, 300 South Fountain Avenue in Springfield.

The Theatre Arts Program students presented Angels in America, Part 1 last spring. “The response from Part 1 has been quite positive,” said Theresa Lauricella, theatre arts coordinator for Clark State. “I've heard wonderful things from faculty who sent students to see Angels last spring. Some students hadn't been exposed to theatre before and still they identified with the characters and plot. The show was also reviewed by the DayTony Awards, and our scores were incredibly consistent across all areas of production from direction to design to acting.”

While some actors from Angels, Part 1 will be returning, two character roles are up for grabs at the audition: Harper Pitt and Prior Walter. Harper Pitt is a female role struggling with addiction; and Prior Walter is a male role who lives modestly - but with style - and was recently visited by celestial beings.

“We were happy that so many were able to return,” said Lauricella. “With a cast of nine, we didn't think many would be able to return. The majority, however, are returning, and the two who could not, have gone on to amazing opportunities.”

Interested actors should arrive at the audition prepared with a one-minute, memorized monologue. A headshot and resume are also encouraged. Actors will be notified via email if they will be cast.

The Clark State Theatre Arts Program will present a second production next spring: The Clean House by Sarah Ruhl. Auditions for these roles will be held January 24-25, 2017.
