The Clark State Community College Theatre Arts Program will hold auditions in January for their spring production of The Clean House by Sarah Ruhl.

The Clean House centers around Matilde, an aspiring comedian, who has come to “metaphysical Connecticut” via Brazil to clean the home of Lane and Charles, but instead secretly works on developing the perfect joke. “This show is unique,” said Theresa Lauricella, associate professor and Theatre Arts program coordinator for Clark State. “It takes place in ‘metaphysical Connecticut’ on an entirely white set. The action takes place in real time and within the characters' memories so it has a surreal or dreamlike quality throughout. The message of the piece is love and forgiveness through humor.” 

Auditions for The Clean House will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, January 24, in the Turner Studio Theatre at the Clark State Performing Arts Center, 300 South Fountain Avenue, Springfield.

The cast of characters includes one male and four females. Auditions are open to all Clark State students and the community. Actors should prepare a one-minute, contemporary monologue. A headshot and resume are preferred. The characters who play Matilde and Ana will need to speak in both English and Portuguese. A language coach teach these two actors with their pronunciation of Portuguese. 

Live performances of The Clean House are scheduled for April 13-15, 20-22, 2017, at 8 p.m. and April 23, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the Clark State Performing Arts Center.
