Clark State Community College will begin offering ABLE/GED preparatory courses at Graham High School in Champaign County February 28. The Adult Basic and Literacy Education (ABLE) and General Education Development (GED) courses are new to the Graham High School location.
“A partnership with Graham Local Schools offers adults in rural Champaign and the surrounding counties the opportunity to continue their education nearby,” said Mary Bower, ABLE/GED coordinator for Clark State. “Offering classes at Graham High School, with up-to-date technology, will expose students to computer skills needed to be competitive in the workplace.”
ABLE offers GED classes to prepare for the GED test, college preparatory classes and classes for adults desiring to improve their skills in reading, writing and math. ABLE can also work with employers and employees desiring to improve work performance. ABLE helps adults acquire the skills needed to be successful in employment, training or post-secondary education.
While taking ABLE/GED courses, students will have access to all of the same services Clark State students have, including academic, career and financial aid advising. Once the ABLE/GED program is complete, Clark State also provides transition assistance to enroll in Clark State or to find employment.
After achieving a GED or completing ABLE classes, students can seamlessly continue their education at Clark State to achieve a high demand certificate or an associate degree.
Home school students who have completed their high school requirements are welcome and eligible to take GED preparatory classes. Clark State ABLE will also offer the Adult Diploma Program and 22+ Adult High School Diploma Program later in 2017.
ABLE/GED courses will begin February 28 of this year and be offered in the Graham High School media center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. All ABLE classes and materials are free for students.

Funding for this program is provided through a grant from the Ohio Department of Higher Education ABLE Program.
Ohio ABLE programs are available in all 88 Ohio counties and provide services for those who need assistance acquiring skills to be successful in post-secondary education and training and employment.
