Clark State Welcomes Project Woman “One Love" to Campus to Raise Teen Dating Violence Awareness

February 21, 2020

Project Woman will present “One Love” – an Escalation film and discussion – on the Clark State campus on Leffel Lane in Springfield at 1 p.m., Tuesday, February 25.

Project Woman staff members Audrey Ferryman, community advocacy and education coordinator, and Emily Parsons, advocate, will be presenting.

“Project Woman is a valuable Clark State partner,” said Melinda Van Noord, counseling coordinator for Clark State. “They have provided prevention programming on campus, and they are very responsive in assisting our students who are in crisis due to intimate partner violence.”

February is National Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. Every February across the United States, teens and those who support them join together for a national effort to raise awareness to teen dating violence. Dating violence is more common than many people realize. One in three teens in the U.S. will experience physical, sexual or emotional abuse by someone they are in a relationship with before they become adults. And nearly half (43%) of college women report experiencing violent and abusive dating behaviors.

The Escalation film and discussion at Clark State will help participants recognize warning signs of dating violence and how they can intervene; or ask for help if they are being victimized. The event at Clark State is free of charge and open to faculty, staff, students and the local community.

Project Woman will also display “What Were You Wearing?” - an exhibit that brings awareness to the prevalence of sexual assault and combats victim-blaming - on Clark State’s campus on Leffel Lane in Springfield, April 6 - 10.
