Clark State Will Offer 15 Trustee Scholarships to Students

December 4, 2015

Clark State Community College is currently accepting applications for Trustee Scholarships for the 2016-17 academic year.

The Clark State Trustee Scholarships cover full tuition for two years (60 credit hours), including instructional, general and technology fees. The scholarships will be awarded to academically-talented students slated to graduate from high school in the spring of 2016.

“We award 15 full scholarships but also take into consideration each student and his/her academic goals,” said Nina Wiley, Clark State’s dean of enrollment services. “The goal of the scholarship is for a student to receive their associate degree without paying the cost of tuition. This is an incredible savings especially if the student plans to transfer after graduation to a four-year institution.”

Applicants must maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or be in the top 15 percent of their graduating class as well as exhibit community and extracurricular involvement. Potential scholarship recipients are required to have completed the SAT, ACT or COMPASS test, and have a Clark State application on file with an assigned student identification number.

High school transcripts and a personal statement essay of no less than 300 words are also required. Wiley advises applicants to stay on topic when writing their essay, directly responding to questions. She encourages applicants to include concrete statements and provide examples. “Students should make their essay passionate, try to distinguish themselves from the other applicants,” she said. “If they say integrity is one of their best qualities, provide an example where integrity is demonstrated.”

Wiley also recommends applicants have someone proofread their essay prior to submission.

Trustee Scholarship applications must be received or postmarked by Tuesday, December 15, 2015. Applicants will be notified if they have been selected to receive a Trustee Scholarship by February 15, 2016.  Wiley said students who apply and do not receive the Trustee Scholarship are considered for a Clark State Foundation scholarship.
