Clark State Workforce and Business Solutions to Offer Free Webinar, Recognize National Apprenticeship Week

November 10, 2020

In recognition of National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) Clark State Workforce and Business Solutions will offer a free webinar at 11 a.m., Friday, November 13.

The webinar - Ohio's Economic Outlook and Workforce Recovery Strategies – will include a panel discussion applicable to all industries and comprise the economic outlook and workforce pipeline from a regional, state and national level. Discussion will also include registered apprenticeship models as a valuable recovery strategy.

“This webinar will take a look at the economic impacts of the COVID pandemic, as well as the 3-to-5 year outlook, focusing highly on employment statistics,” said Lesli Beavers, director of Clark State Workforce and Business Solutions. “This webinar will be useful to those industry sectors that are still experiencing a need in their workforce pipeline or anticipate a need in the immediate future, and how the apprenticeship model can help connect dislocated, non-skilled, individuals into in-demand, skilled positions.”

Beavers said several of manufacturers are hiring or in need of hiring large numbers.

“The current climate is perfect for recruiting non-essential employees who have been displaced from retail, food service and other hard-hit sectors,” she said. “Apprenticeship models will ensure these individuals get the appropriate skills training while also creating a loyal, long-term employee.”

Attendees of the webinar will hear directly from an industry partner and their experience in creating and deploying an apprenticeship program.

Registered apprenticeship models continue to gain momentum across all industry sectors as a proven workforce pipeline and development tool - boasting a 91 percent retention rate for completed apprentices nationally, according to the Department of Labor.

Panelists will include:

  • Michael Evans, director of Workforce Partnerships, Ohio Association of Community Colleges
  • Lesli Beavers, director of Workforce and Business Solutions, Clark State
  • Dan Yohey, CSSBB, quality engineer, Rittal North America, LLC

NAW is a nationwide celebration that brings together business leaders, career seekers, labor, educational institutions and other critical partners to demonstrate their support for apprenticeship. NAW also provides apprenticeship sponsors the opportunity to showcase programs, facilities and apprentices in their community. The week-long celebration highlights the benefits of apprenticeship in preparing a highly-skilled workforce to meet the talent needs of employers across diverse industries. NAW runs November 8-14, 2020.
