President and CEO of Community Mercy Health Partners (CMHP) and Vice President of Mercy Health Matthew Caldwell will bring the real world of healthcare into the classroom at Clark State Community College on Thursday, March 16.
Caldwell will present “Nursing: Caring for Our Community” to nursing students at Clark State. He will also discuss opportunities with CMHP, including the Student Nurse Apprenticeship Program (SNAP) and Accelerated Clinical Education (ACE).

Mercy Health is the largest health care system in Ohio, and serves the local community as the area’s largest employer in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings.
Caldwell began his current role in December after serving the past four years as CEO of Tennova Healthcare Lebanon in Lebanon, Tennessee. He holds a master’s degree in healthcare administration from the University of Texas at Arlington and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas.
At Tennova Healthcare Lebanon, Caldwell focused on physician relationships, service line growth and patient and employee satisfaction.
In a previous position as CEO of Dallas Regional Medical Center in Texas, the hospital was ranked first in patient safety in Dallas County. He has healthcare leadership experience at other Texas hospitals in varied roles, including chief operating officer, chief nursing officer and VP of patient care support.
Caldwell started his healthcare career in nursing and has experience in critical care, recovery room, orthopedic post-operative care and as a case manager.
Caldwell’s presentation will begin at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, March 16 in the Sara T. Landess Technology and Learning Center (TLC), Room 143 on Clark State’s Leffel Lane campus in Springfield.
