Grand Opening of Clark State’s Center for Nonprofit Excellence Slated for February 5

February 1, 2016

Clark State Community College will celebrate the Grand Opening of the new Center for Nonprofit Excellence from 3 - 5 p.m., Friday, February 5.

The Center for Nonprofit Excellence, located with the Workforce Development office on the first floor of the Brinkman Educational Center in downtown Springfield, will serve as a resource for nonprofit organizations in the Miami Valley and beyond. The Center will provide workshops and certifications; networking opportunities; consulting and strategic planning; and membership benefits for nonprofit professionals.

The mission of the Center is to provide essential tools to help lead, grow and strengthen nonprofit organizations. Dr. Amit Singh, provost and vice president of academic affairs at Clark State, said there are more than 400 nonprofit organizations in the region.

“Nonprofit entities are an extremely important part of our society and serve very important purposes for our citizens,” said Singh. “However, in order to be an effective organization, they also need training and professional development for their employees as well as the board members. The Center will play an important role in serving many of these entities as they focus on serving their customers.”

The Center will begin accepting applications for membership following the Grand Opening. Any nonprofit organization can join, and the cost of membership is dependent on budget size. Membership benefits include discounts on workshop fees and meeting and event space at Clark State.

The first one-day seminar “Board Basics/Reduce Your Board’s Anxiety About Fundraising” will be held February 11. Additional seminars are scheduled for February 26; March 18 and 19; April 21; May 9; and June 29 and 30. The first quarterly “CEO Connections” meeting will be held from 8 a.m. - 9:30 a.m., March 29.

The Grand Opening event will feature tours, refreshments and guest speakers including State Representative Kyle Koehler, Springfield Chamber of Commerce President Mike McDorman, Executive Director of the United Way of Clark, Champaign and Madison Counties Kerry Pedraza and Clark State Director of Workforce Development and Sales Duane Hodge.
