State-Wide Free Financial Aid Event to be Held at Clark State

January 27, 2015

Clark State will host the state-wide college financial aid event “College Goal Sunday” (CGS) Sunday, February 8, from 2-4 p.m. at the Sara T. Landess Technology and Learning Center on the Leffel Lane campus.

The free event, presented by the Ohio Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (OASFAA) and endorsed by the Ohio Board of Regents, assists students and parents with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is the federal application that is required to receive federal financial aid including the Federal Pell Grant and student loans as well as the need-based state grants.

“Students should be prepared with 2014 income and tax information for themselves and parents,” said Kathy Klay, Clark State financial aid director. “We encourage at least one parent to attend and ask those interested to register for the event.”

Klay said Clark State has hosted CGS for about ten years and is open to students planning to attend a wide variety of colleges. “However, I know we have had many attendees enroll at Clark State, and we even have some of our current students take advantage of the help they can receive on that day,” Klay said. “We have many great volunteers coming out to help, and we would love to have a great turnout.”

Students and families can pre-register for the event at: ohiocollegegoalsunday.org or by calling 1-800-233-6734.

The FAFSA is the key to funding a college education and helping families to overcome financial barriers that otherwise prevent students from attending the institution of their choice.

OASFAA is a non-profit, professional organization for individuals actively engaged in the administration of financial aid within the State of Ohio for higher education. As an educational organization, OASFAA strives to offer resources to students, families and high school advisors to promote higher education and increase awareness of financial aid opportunities.
