WGU Announces Scholarships for Clark State Community College Alumni and Staff

April 12, 2017

A scholarship program for Clark State Community College alumni and staff was just announced by Western Governors University (WGU). Students that have graduated with an associate degree or staff who are employed at Clark State Community College are now eligible to apply for the WGU Ohio Community College Scholarship.

The WGU Ohio Community College Scholarships, valued at $2,500 each, will be applied at the rate of $625 per six-month term, renewable for up to four terms, toward WGU’s already low tuition of about $6,000 per year for most programs.

Last fall, WGU and the Ohio Association of Community Colleges announced a partnership that allows Ohio community college graduates to seamlessly transfer their coursework to WGU while also receiving a five percent tuition discount. WGU’s Ohio Community College Scholarship builds on that partnership, making it even more affordable for community college graduates and staff to complete their college journey with a bachelor’s or master’s degree.

WGU uses an innovative approach to learning called competency-based education, which focuses on measuring learning rather than time spent in class. Students earn their degrees by demonstrating mastery of the subject matter they need to be successful—real-world competencies developed in collaboration with employers. While WGU’s degree programs are rigorous and challenging, competency-based learning makes it possible for students to accelerate their progress, saving both time and money.

The Ohio Community College Scholarship is open to new WGU students who have been officially admitted to WGU. While multiple scholarships will be awarded, it is a competitive program. Scholarships will be awarded based on the candidate’s academic record, readiness for online study and current competency, as well as other considerations.
