Clark State to Host Plant Sale Benefitting Agriculture and Horticulture Club

The Clark State Community College Agriculture and Horticulture Club will host a plant sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, April 19 in the Sara T. Landess Technology and Learning Center rotunda on the Springfield campus. The Clark State Plant Propagation class grew the plants in the Clark State greenhouse. The annual plant sale is open to the community, and plants will range in price from $1 - $5. Funds raised will benefit the Agriculture and Horticulture Club.

Clark State Will Honor Outstanding Students at Annual Event

Clark State Community College will hold Student Recognition Night Wednesday, April 17 at the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center in downtown Springfield. The ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. Student Recognition Night is an annual event recognizing and celebrating outstanding students. This year 53 students will be honored in various areas including Student Life (Phi Theta Kappa, Student Ambassadors, Student Senate, Creative Writer’s Club, Physical Therapist Assistant Club), Perseverance, Work Study, Campus Involvement and Academic Programs. The keynote speaker at the event will be Clark State alumnus Jordan Tyler.

Clark State Performing Arts Center Will Come Alive with The Sound of Music

The Clark State Community Performing Arts Center will come alive with The Sound of Music on Friday, May 3. A brand new production of The Sound of Music, produced by NETworks Presentations, is making its Springfield as part of a North American tour. The Sound of Music will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 3 at the Clark State Performing Arts Center, 300 South Fountain Avenue in Springfield. Tickets range from $43-$69 and can be purchased on www.ticketmaster.com.

Project Jericho Celebrates Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month

Project Jericho staff and students attended the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund’s April Child Abuse Prevention Month Kick-Off event March 25, 2019, at the Ohio Statehouse. This event featured the artwork of five Project Jericho youth: Elijah Midgette, Jakima Midgette, Jersey McGath, Juliana McGath and Joshlyn Rice. Their artwork was accepted into the Everyday Hero Contest and displayed at the Ohio Statehouse. Joshlyn Rice was awarded 3rd place for her artwork. Joshlyn’s winning entry was of a bumblebee that has the power to help and protect others. Additional Project Jericho participants created child abuse prevention posters that will be distributed to organizations and businesses participating in Clark County Department of Job and Family Services’ April Blue Ribbon Tree Campaign.

Jim Witter to Return to Clark State Performing Arts Center for Kuss Memorial Concert

Jim Witter will return to the Clark State Performing Arts Center for the ninth consecutive year as headliner of the Richard and Barbara Kuss Memorial Concert. Witter’s show will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 12 and feature “Piano Men: A Musical Journey Through the ‘70s.” Witter and his band will play the timeless classics of Billy Joel and Elton John. Tickets are required for the Jim Witter concert, but are complimentary thanks to the show’s sponsor, the Carleton F. and Ruth Davidson Trust. Registration Open for Clark State’s College for Kids and Teens, Additional Scholarships Available

Clark State Community College is currently accepting registrations for the 2019 College for Kids and Teens summer programming. All courses and activities are conducted in a non-graded environment encouraging the student’s personal growth and development. The activities provide opportunities for students to explore new areas of interest, stretch their imagination or cultivate a skill. Classes begin June 14 and conclude the week of July 15. Clark State will award full scholarships to selected students to defray the cost of attending College for Kids and Teens.

Clark State to Induct 27 Students into Epsilon Pi Tau Honor Society

Clark State Community College will hold an induction ceremony for Epsilon Pi Tau at 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 3 at the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center. Clark State’s Epsilon Pi Tau Chapter, Delta Iota, will welcome the class of 2019 which includes 27 inductees. Epsilon Pi Tau was founded at The Ohio State University in 1929 and is the premier academic and professional honors group for technology programs in higher education, workforce development programs and professionals in practice. Epsilon Pi Tau is a certified member of the Association of College Honor societies.

Clark State Now Offers Scholarships for CyberSecurity Degree

Clark State Community College is offering scholarships to veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces or anyone with any bachelor’s degree with a strong interest in CyberSecurity. Qualified students who complete Clark State’s two-year CyberSecurity/Information Assurance program receive a paid scholarship (tuition, fees and books), a stipend of $25,000 per year, cybersecurity internships and assistance with full-time employment. Clark State to Host Health Fair for College and Community

Clark State Community College will host a spring health fair as part of its continued health and wellness initiative. The annual Health Fair will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Wednesday, April 3 in the LRC Building, Room 207/209 at the Springfield campus on Leffel Lane. The event is free and open to the public. Students, faculty, staff and the public will have the opportunity to connect with over 45 health and social service agencies from Springfield, Cincinnati and Dayton providing valuable information and screenings.

Clark State Now Accepting Applications for Third Class of Nationally Recognized SOAR Program

The third class of Clark State Community College SOAR participants will begin their mentorship under the guidance of Clark State President Dr. Jo Alice Blondin this fall. The goal of the SOAR program is to develop and create leaders who are committed to serving Clark State as partners in student success. SOAR is a comprehensive professional development experience for full-time faculty and staff that provides self-assessment, leadership strengths building, mentoring and career development planning, thereby leading to stronger, more prepared leaders who will enhance Clark State’s focus on student success. Applications for the 2019-20 class of SOAR participants are now being accepted until 5 p.m. on April 1. Those selected for the SOAR program will be mentored for one year. Mentoring will officially begin in August of this year.

Clark State Community College will host its first Authors’ Corner featuring literary works and readings by Clark State faculty and staff on Tuesday, April 2. Authors’ Corner is a family event that is open to Clark State faculty, staff, students and the community-at-large. The event will be held 1 - 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2 in the Clark State Library in the Sara T. Landess Technology and Learning Center at the Springfield campus on Leffel Lane. Clark State Theatre Arts Program to Present “The Lion in Winter”

Winter may be over, but the lion still prowls at the Clark State Performing Arts Center. The Clark State Community College Theatre Arts program will present “The Lion in Winter” beginning April 5 at the Clark State Performing Arts Center. “The Lion in Winter” is a family drama set in 1183 at the court of Henry II and was written by James Goldman. “The Lion in Winter” is slated for performance at 8 p.m. April 5, 6, 12 and 13; and 2 p.m. April 7 and 14 in the Turner Studio Theatre of the Clark State Performing Arts Center.

Clark State’s Crystal Jones Named to AAWCC Women Under 40 Class of 2019

The Board of Directors of the American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC) has selected Clark State Community College’s Crystal Jones as a member of the Women Under 40, Class of 2019. Each year the AAWCC recognizes women who are making a difference for their college and community. Jones will be honored at an awards breakfast on Sunday, April 14 at the Orlando World Center Marriott.

Clark State to Host Ohio House Representative, Chair of Education Sub-Committee Rick Carfagna

Clark State Community College will welcome Ohio House Representative Rick Carfagna to the Springfield campus on Monday, March 25. Carfagna is serving his second term in the Ohio House of Representatives and is also chair of the Higher Education Sub-Committee. Carfagna will begin by meeting with Clark State Executive Council at 9 a.m.; tour the Sweet Advanced Manufacturing Center featuring the new 5-axis CNC machine at 9:30 a.m.; and end his time on campus by engaging with Clark State students at 10 a.m.

Clark State Scholars Program to Host Students for Campus Retreats

Clark State Community College will host students from the Champaign County Scholars program for student retreats Wednesday, March 20 and Friday, March 22. The purpose of Clark State Scholars retreats is to offer experiences focused around Clark State degree programs, career exploration, college readiness and student life for students. Approximately 40 eighth and ninth grade students are expected to attend the retreats from both Graham and Urbana local schools. The Clark State Scholars program offers three years of college at Clark State at no cost to the students upon graduation.

Clark State Community College will hold an open house for prospective students interested in learning more about what the college has to offer. The open house is designed for prospective students to get a one-stop experience highlighting academic programs and campus services and resources,” said Clarissa Beavers, admissions specialist for Clark State. Higher Learning Commission Reaffirms Accreditation to Clark State Through 2029

Clark State Community College has been reaffirmed for accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) through 2028-29. Clark State hosted a team from the HLC in December of 2018. The College has been accredited by the HLC since 1973. While visiting Clark State, the HLC team reviewed the institution’s continued ability to meet the criteria for accreditation. Accreditation validates the quality of an institution as a whole and evaluates multiple aspects of an institution ranging from its academic offerings, governance and administration, mission, finances and resources.

Clark State to Celebrate Diversity with PechaKucha Night

The Clark State Community College Diversity Committee in collaboration with the Frank Lloyd Wright Westcott House and Mother Stewart’s Brewing Company will host a PechaKucha Night on Thursday, March 21. The theme will be: Celebrating our Differences! Clark State’s Diversity Committee’s vision is to facilitate various opportunities to explore individual differences and engage in thoughtful discussions that encourage awareness, acceptance, compassion and respect, where everyone feels safe, included and equal. PechaKucha, which means “chit-chat” in Japanese, is a fun and informal event.
