Clark State’s Beavercreek Location Offers Community Support

Clark State Community College’s Greene Center location on Pentagon Boulevard is open for classes and to residents of Beavercreek and surrounding communities affected by the power outages and damage from recent severe weather conditions. Water and snacks will be available as well as places to charge phones. “Clark State stands at the ready to help the communities we serve in any way we can,” said Dr. Jo Alice Blondin, president of Clark State. Students who have been impacted by the severe weather conditions may contact John in the Office of Student Support 937-328-6101 for assistance.

OACC Selects Clark State’s Mohler, Jones for its First Leadership Academy

Dr. Melinda Mohler, associate professor of History, and Crystal Jones, assistant dean of Business and Applied Technologies, were selected by the Ohio Association of Community Colleges (OACC) to represent Clark State Community College in its new Leadership Academy. This Academy is modeled on the Aspen Institute’s Leadership program.

Clark State, Union Institute & University Partner for Transfer Degree Options

Clark State Community College and Union Institute & University (UI&U) enters into an articulation agreement to offer additional transfer degree pathways for Clark State students. This partnership will allow Clark State students to transfer up to 90 semester hours from Clark State toward a bachelor's degree from Union Institute & University.

Clark State Announces Third Class of SOAR Program Participants

The third class of Clark State Community College SOAR participants will begin their mentorship under the guidance of Clark State President Dr. Jo Alice Blondin this fall. SOAR–Serving Our Own through Leadership and Retention–was developed in order to facilitate mentoring of faculty and staff on campus and assist them in identifying current and future leadership opportunities that will result in personal and professional growth.

Clark State Now Accepting Applications for Summer JHU Engineering Innovation Program

Clark State Community College will welcome qualified local high school students to the Johns Hopkins University Engineering Innovation program for the fifth consecutive year. Applications for the program are now being accepted. Engineering Innovation is limited to 24 students and will be offered at Clark State from June 24 through July 19, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Clark State Beavercreek Location to Hold Open House for Prospective Students, Showcase Academic Opportunities

Clark State Community College will hold an open house for prospective students interested in learning more about the courses and services offered at its Beavercreek location. The Beavercreek location specializes in offering degree and certificate programs in IT and healthcare. The Clark State open house will be held from 4 - 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 14 at 3775 Pentagon Park Boulevard in Beavercreek, Ohio.

Clark State to Offer New Summer Manufacturing Camp

Clark State Community College in partnership with Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs (NBT) will offer a summer manufacturing camp for students ages 12 through 16. Students will learn to use 3D modeling software to design and print a TIC-TAC-TOE board and pegs. The camp will be offered June 3 – 7 at Clark State’s Springfield campus on Leffel Lane. Space is limited to 12 students and is free of charge.

Clark State to Host “Catch the Mic!” Event in Celebration of Graduation

Clark State Community College will host Catch the Mic! presented by the Men of Clark State and in honor of the Class of 2019 on Friday, May 10 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. in the Clark State Eagle’s Nest located at the Springfield campus on Leffel Lane. Catch the Mic! is a community event celebrating male graduates of Clark State and the spoken word (poetry). Patrons will hear from talented poets and artists in the surrounding area who will be performing and sharing their art.

Clark State to Celebrate Commencement with Two Ceremonies on Saturday, May 11

Clark State Community College will celebrate commencement with two ceremonies on Saturday, May 11 at the Clark State Performing Arts Center in downtown Springfield. The Clark State Class of 2019 features 607 candidates for graduation who will receive their degree or certificate of completion. Christopher Sineno is graduating with an associate degree in Management. He will be the featured speaker at the 9:30 a.m. commencement ceremony. International student Stephanie Carter Olán is graduating with an Associate of Science degree. She will be the featured speaker at the 12:30 p.m. commencement ceremony.

Clark State to Hold Pinning Ceremonies for Spring 2019 Nursing Graduates

The Clark State Community College – Springfield Regional School of Nursing will hold pinning ceremonies for 97 graduating nurses who have completed their programs of study. The pinning ceremony for the Practical Nursing students will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 9; 22 Practical Nursing students will be conferred at this ceremony. The pinning ceremony for Registered Nursing students will be held at 6 p.m., Friday, May 10; 75 Registered Nursing students will be conferred at this ceremony. Both ceremonies will be held at the Clark State Performing Arts Center in downtown Springfield.

Clark State to Recognize, Honor Student Athletes

Clark State Community College will hold their annual athletic banquet on Wednesday, May 1 at the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center in downtown Springfield. Each Clark State athletic team nominated an MVP, First Year Award, Most Improved, Hustle and Student Scholar. Clark State alumnus and former student-athlete Je’Michael Blanton will be the featured speaker at the athletic banquet. He graduated from Clark State in 2016 and will be graduating from Miami University this semester. Without giving away any of the details, McCulla said Blanton’s story will resonate with current student-athletes.

Clark State to Induct Largest Class of SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society Members

Clark State Community College will hold an induction ceremony for the United States military active-duty, retirees, reservists and veteran students who met qualifications for the SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society. The 12 students to be inducted this year are the third and largest group of Clark State students bestowed with this honor. The students inducted into SALUTE represent all branches of American military and veterans in higher education at two- and four-year institutions. Members include retirees, disabled veterans, active duty military, National Guard and reservists returning to higher education, starting second careers or helping fund their college careers with military service. The SALUTE ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 30 in the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center, 275 South Limestone Street, Springfield, Ohio.

Take Yourself Out to a Ball Game with the Clark State Eagles

Clark State Community College will host its first Clark State Day at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 27 at its baseball home field, 1000 Pierce Drive in Fairborn. The event – open to Clark State faculty, staff, students and the community - will be held during the last Clark State men’s baseball game against rival Sinclair Community College. The Clark State Alumni Association will host a pre-game tailgate party beginning at 12 p.m. and includes food, refreshments, games and a raffle for Clark State gear. Students are encouraged to wear their Clark State spirit gear on Thursday, April 25 in support of Clark State athletics.

Clark State PTK Chapter Receives Numerous Honors, Plans Spring Induction

Alpha Nu Lambda, Clark State Community College’s chapter of the international honor society Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), will hold a spring induction ceremony at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 24 at the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center in downtown Springfield. The 2018-19 Clark State class of Alpha Nu Lamba received numerous kudos at the PTK Ohio Region Awards ceremony in March. Alpha Nu Lamba was named a 5-Star Chapter and received 1st Runner-Up and the Catch a Shining Star award for their Student Engagement hallmark project. There are more than 40 PTK chapters in Ohio, and the Clark State Alpha Nu Lambda chapter was ranked No.7 in the state; jumping three spots from last year.

Project Jericho's Shelter: A Celebration of Visual and Performing Arts

Project Jericho constructed programming this spring inspired by the Springfield Museum of Art’s current exhibit entitled, Shelter: Crafting a Safe Home. In response to the exhibit, Project Jericho’s participants created drypoint etching prints, hand crafted books and poetry with the desire to create community awareness around the critical need for shelter. On Thursday, April 25, 2019, from 5-6:30 p.m., the community is invited to attend a free reception at the Springfield Museum of Art and celebrate the Shelter inspired art made by Project Jericho youth and families.

Winners of Clark State Creative Writing Contest to Headline Poetry Reading

Clark State Community College will host the winners of the Voices of the Valley regional poetry contest for a reading on Friday, April 19. The contest, established by the Clark State Creative Writers Club, was open to 25 schools in the area. The contest theme prompted writers to “Convey a Sense of Place,” and contestants could submit up to two poems with no more than 250 words per poem. The poetry reading will be held from 2-5 p.m., Friday, April 19 in the Eagle's Nest Café on Clark State’s Springfield campus. It will showcase readings from high school, college and university students from surrounding counties. This event is open to the community.

Clark State Senior VP Selected for Aspen Institute College Excellence Program

Dr. Theresa Felder, senior vice president of student success for Clark State Community College, has been named to The Aspen Institute’s College Excellence Program class of 2019-2020. The Aspen Presidential Fellowship for Community College Excellence is a leadership program designed to prepare the next generation of community college presidents to transform institutions to achieve higher and more equitable levels of student success, both in college and in the labor market. The select group of 40 Aspen Presidential Fellows will embark on a 10-month fellowship beginning in July 2019.
