Clark State Approved for Second Bachelor’s Degree

Clark State Community College has received official approval from the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) for a second applied baccalaureate degree. The four-year degree in Web Design and Development is anticipated to be available to students beginning in 2020 pending final approval by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The proposed Web Design and Development program will prepare students for employment as web developers, web designers, front end developers, software developers and full stack web developers.

Clark State Welcomes New Vice President of Academic Affairs

Clark State Community College has named Dr. Tiffany Hunter as the new vice president of academic affairs. Hunter has served as dean of education and human services at Florida State College at Jacksonville for the past seven years. She has worked in higher education for 20 years and in administrative roles, in both two- and four-year institutions for ten years. Hunter will begin her new role at Clark State as vice president of academic affairs on January 14, 2019.

Clark State to Honor Military Veterans with Activities

Clark State Community College will commemorate Veterans Day with various campus activities including the display of 2,000 United States flags at the Springfield campus on Leffel Lane, the Greene Center in Beavercreek and at Ohio Hi-Point Career Center in Bellefontaine. The POW/MIA flag will be raised at the Springfield Leffel Lane campus. We are proud to honor the veterans and military in our Clark State community of students, alumni, faculty and staff.

Clark State Receives RAPIDS Funding from Ohio Department of Higher Education

Clark State Community College has been selected to receive $93,131 as part of the RAPIDS—Regionally Aligned Priorities in Delivering Skills program—from the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE). The focus of the Western RAPIDS consortium, virtual reality in the classroom, is becoming a great tool for giving students hands-on experiences right in the classroom. Clark State will be using this technology to strengthen Clark State’s Cybersecurity/Information Assurance, Manufacturing and Physical Therapist Assistant programs. With technical programs like those offered by Clark State, hands-on experiences both in the field and in the classroom are essential, and virtual reality expands students’ opportunities like never before.

Clark State Names Lesli Beavers as Director of Workforce and Business Solutions

Former Clark State Community College program manager for Workforce and Business Solutions – Lesli Beavers – has accepted the role of director of Workforce and Business Solutions. Beavers replaces Toni Overholser, who now serves as director of the Clark State Foundation. Beavers is responsible for maintaining the College’s strong community outreach and liaison relationships with area chambers of commerce, related civic and government organizations and individuals to help ensure community leaders and the community at-large are aware of Clark State’s presence and value to the community.

Clark State Hosts 11th Volley for the Cure

Clark State Community College continues its health and wellness initiatives in October – breast cancer awareness month – by hosting the 11th annual Volley for the Cure. Volley for the Cure will be held on Wednesday, October 24 in the gymnasium of the Clark State Leffel Lane campus in Springfield. One hundred percent of the funds raised will be used to provide financial assistance to women of Clark and Champaign counties who do not have the resources necessary to ensure breast health or cope with breast cancer.

Clark State Receives Grant from the Ohio Program for Campus Safety and Mental Health Collaborative

Clark State Community College has been awarded $5,000 from the Ohio Program for Campus Safety and Mental Health Collaborative Grant. The grant will benefit Clark State and community partner The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) for Clark, Greene and Madison Counties. The funds from the Ohio Program for Campus Safety and Mental Health Collaborative will be used for educational and promotional materials, and special events on campus.

New Clark State Location at the Xenia YMCA Offering Hard Hat Tours

It’s time to don your hard hat and get a first glimpse of Clark State Community College at the Xenia YMCA. Construction on the new Clark State Xenia location is well under way with a projected opening date of January 2019. Clark State will use 4,950 square feet of the brand new facility for classrooms, laboratories and offices. At full capacity, the classrooms would allow Clark State to serve approximately 300-400 students. The Clark State Xenia YMCA location, 336 South Progress Drive in Xenia, will offer a series of “Hard Hat” tours at 11 a.m. on October 20, November 17 and December 8.

Clark State Performing Arts Center Continues Celebration with Choir of Man

Dubbed across the globe as the “Ultimate Feel Good Show,” Clark State Community College will continue to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Performing Arts Center with a 5-Star rated performance by the Choir of Man. The Choir of Man is a pint-filled good time set in a working pub that combines harmonies, high energy dance and live percussion with foot stomping choreography. The cast of nine talented men sing everything from pub tunes, folk songs, Broadway and classic rock. The show features music by Paul Simon, Adele, Queen, Guns N’ Roses, Sia and many more; as well as jokes, skits and monologues.

Clark State Precision Agriculture Program Named in Top 10 Nationally

The Clark State Community College Precision Agriculture program has been named in the Top 10 programs by the editors of Precision Ag magazine. Clark State has developed the region’s only for-credit degree program in precision agriculture — one that provides students not only with classroom-based learning, but with hands-on technical training at the Airpark Ohio UAS test range, located at the Springfield Municipal Airport. This state-of-the-art lab and partnerships with local farmers and businesses provide real data in real time for real results — for real world experiences that bring precision agriculture to life.

Clark State Welcomes Outreach Coordinator for Greene County

Clark State Community College welcomed Max McConnell as the new coordinator of Greene County outreach. McConnell will engage with Greene County employers, high schools and community organizations, placing a high priority on connecting with Greene County businesses and educational leaders. McConnell will develop training programs jointly between the College and local organizations, primarily the business or agency that is contracting the training, assuring that the program will match the employment needs of the client.

Clark State Had No Reported Crimes Per the Clery Annual Campus Security Report

Clark State Community College had no reported crimes per the 2017 Jeanne Clery Annual Campus Security Report. The federal government requires every college to file an annual campus security report. The report identifies certain crimes committed on college campuses. In 2017, Clark State had no reportable crimes committed on any of their three campuses, but Clark State continues to keep safety a top priority. Clark State maintains a three-tiered safety structure, including a safety committee, building project officers and a crisis response team.

Clark State Foundation to Honor More than 100 Scholarship Recipients

Clark State Community College will hold Scholarship Recognition Night on Friday, October 5 at the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center in downtown Springfield. The Clark State Foundation has awarded $161,700 in scholarships so far this academic year to 129 students who will be honored at the event along with the recipients of the Trustee Scholarships, Champion City Scholars, Choose Ohio First Scholarships and Tech Prep Scholarships. The Foundation scholarship funds can be used for tuition, fees and books for students at Clark State. The Clark State Foundation has more than 60 different restricted scholarships that have been established by donors and businesses in our community.

Clark State to Host Active Shooter Exercise at Brinkman Educational Center in Downtown Springfield October 4

Clark State Community College will host an active-shooter training exercise at the Brinkman Educational Center in downtown Springfield on Thursday, October 4. As part of the exercise, simulated gun shots, an explosion and other loud noises may be heard in downtown Springfield sometime between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The exercise is expected to conclude around 1 p.m.

Renowned Tattoo Artist to “Walk a Mile” in Vans Shoes with Project Jericho Youth

Clark State Community College’s youth outreach program – Project Jericho – has partnered again with renowned tattoo artist Kat Marie Moya for the “A Mile in My Shoes” Vans project. A Mile in My Shoes will bring court-involved youth and juvenile court staff together to work side by side to create personal illustrations on their own pair of white Vans shoes. The “A Mile in My Shoes” Vans shoes project is a multi-layered creative outlet as the students are asked to communicate, write, design and illustrate to effectively complete the project.

Project Jericho Chalking Up Another Festival for Budding Artists, Families

Project Jericho, Clark State Community College’s youth outreach program, will present the second annual Chalktoberfest chalk-art festival and contest on Saturday, October 6. The festival will also include the annual Project Scare-a-Crow finale: “Crows Incognito.” Adelee & Gentry will be performing live music and local food trucks will be available. The Springfield Museum of Art will lead a children’s art activity under the big tent, and Hatch Artist Studios will be open from 12 to 4 p.m. Chalktoberfest will begin at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, October 6 at the National Road Commons Park.

Blondin Honored 5th Consecutive Year as BizWomen Power 50 by Dayton Business Journal

Clark State Community College President Dr. Jo Alice Blondin has been named to the 2018 BizWomen Power 50 list by the Dayton Business Journal. This marks Blondin’s fifth consecutive year as a BizWomen Power 50 honoree. Dr. Blondin’s national, regional and local service strengthens Clark State’s responsiveness to workforce and community needs. She was a featured presenter at the Women in Business Networking (WiBN) conference this month where she spoke on mentoring and was also awarded the 2018 American Association of Community College (AACC) CEO/Board Relationship Award of Excellence.
