Johns Hopkins Programs Return to Clark State for Fourth Year, Applications Open December 15

Clark State Community College is recruiting middle school and high school students for the fourth consecutive year of the elite Phone & Games and Engineering Innovation programs in partnership with Johns Hopkins University. Eligible students from Madison, Clark, Champaign, Logan, Miami, Montgomery and Greene counties will be able to participate in the programs during the summer of 2018. Applications for Engineering Innovation and the Phone & Games programs are online and will open on December 15, 2017.

Clark State Drives Success with College Credit Plus, Will Host Info Session Today

Clark State Community College continues to successfully increase the number of students enrolled in the College Credit Plus (CCP) program. In 2017, College Credit Plus, formerly known as the Post-Secondary Enrollment Option (PSEO) program, increased enrollment by more than 11 percent over 2016. In the 2016-17 academic year, College Credit Plus students earned a total of 18,695 credit hours; a savings of more than $2.6 million in tuition costs. Since the inception of College Credit Plus in 2013, Clark State has saved students and families more than $10 million.

Clark State Seeking Proposals for New Health Care Facility

Clark State Community College is now accepting bid proposals from companies interested in establishing a health care facility on the Leffel Lane campus in Springfield. Clark State is seeking a partner with the shared vision of better healthcare for students, faculty, employees and the community at large. The proposed location for the health care facility is the first floor of the Applied Science Center, one of Clark State’s busiest classroom buildings and the location of most nursing and allied science classes.

Clark State Advances in Pursuit to Offer Applied Baccalaureate Degree

Clark State Community College is one step closer in its quest to offer students the option of an applied baccalaureate degree in Manufacturing Technology Management. Clark State's application for the applied baccalaureate degree in Manufacturing Technology Management has been posted to the Ohio Department of Higher Education website, which is the second step in the approval process; the first was the application. An applied bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Technology Management from Clark State will prepare incumbent workers in the manufacturing industry or those interested in pursuing a career in manufacturing to acquire both technical and supervisory skills that will result in a well-paying job in the region.

Study Shows Clark State’s Local Economic Impact More than $160 Million in 2016

An economic impact study by the Southwestern Ohio Council for Higher Education (SOCHE) shows Clark State Community College nearly doubled its local impact in fiscal year 2016. SOCHE completed the last economic impact study in 2011. The total economic impact of Clark State on Champaign, Clark, Greene and Logan Counties reached approximately $161 million last year. This includes the impact of operations, student spending and capital investment. The college directly supported 1,482 jobs and indirectly supported another 425 full- and part-time jobs in the four-county region.

Clark State to Hold Pinning Ceremonies for Nursing Graduates

The Clark State Community College – Springfield Regional School of Nursing will hold pinning ceremonies for more than 80 graduating nurses who have completed their programs of study. The pinning ceremony for registered nursing students will be held Monday, December 11, 2017, at 6 p.m. at the Clark State Performing Arts Center; 56 registered nursing students will be honored at this event. The pinning ceremony for the practical nursing students will be held Thursday, December 7, 2017, at 7 p.m. at the Clark State Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center; 24 practical nursing students will be honored during this ceremony.

Project Jericho Unveils New Art Exhibit at Clark State

Clark State Community College invites the community to attend the unveiling of Project Jericho’s exhibit entitled, Afternoon in the Park, on Thursday, December 14 from 5-6 p.m. in the Sara T. Landess Technology and Learning Center Rotunda at the Springfield campus on Leffel Lane. Project Jericho youth created 12 acrylic paintings of landscapes that captured the changing seasons of Clark County. Youth worked with lead artist Kristen Eisentrager to explore landscape painting through original photographs and by exploring the grounds at George Rogers Clark Park.

Clark State Community College will host a variety of health and wellness programming for students and the community beginning this week. The Food Pantry and Coat Closet Donation Drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, November 29 and Thursday, November 30 in the Sara T. Landess Technology and Learning Center Rotunda (Springfield), Greene Center Student Services Desk (Beavercreek) and Admissions Office (Bellefontaine).

Clark State to Offer Convenient Express Orientation for New Students

Clark State Community College will offer Express Orientation services for new students on November 30 at the Springfield campus on Leffel Lane and December 16 at the Greene Center at the Beavercreek campus. During Express Orientation, students can also apply for admission, receive assistance with financial aid (bring 2015 tax return), take placement tests and register for classes.

Clark State Board Member Andy Bell Appointed to ACCT Finance Committee

Clark State Community College Board of Trustees member Andy Bell has been appointed to the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) Finance and Audit Committee for 2018. Bell has also served as chairperson of the Finance Committee for Clark State, Wittenberg University and the Global Impact STEM Academy. He has been attending ACCT meetings and conferences and considers it one of the best professional trade associations. This year, Bell was honored with the Maureen C. Grady Award for Special Achievement and recognized as Champion of Clark State.

The Office of Workforce Transformation identifies business needs, aligns training to meet those needs and connects businesses and workers. Director Burgess leads initiatives to ensure the development of a skilled and productive workforce in Ohio.

Clark State to Hold Open House for Renovated Downtown Brinkman Educational Center

Clark State Community College will hold an open house for the newly renovated dining and seminar rooms on the fourth floor of the Brinkman Educational Center in downtown Springfield. The space will be used for internal and external meetings, trainings and events. The public is invited to attend the open house for a tour of the fourth floor dining and seminar rooms from 1 – 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 29.

Clark State Military Veteran Students May Receive Additional Benefits from Ohio College Opportunities Grant

Beginning in the Spring of 2018, Clark State Community College military veteran students will have the option of utilizing funds from the Ohio College Opportunities Grant (OCOG) for housing and living expenses. For students attending year-round at public community colleges, OCOG funding can be considered when a student has used all of their annual Pell grant funding. Clark State currently serves 142 United States military veteran students, 19 active military students, 31 National Guard or Reserve students, 88 dependents and 40 military spouses.

Clark State President Blondin to Serve on ACT Panel for Workforce Education

Clark State Community College President Dr. Jo Alice Blondin will serve on the keynote plenary panel at the American College Testing (ACT) Workforce summit in Austin, Texas. Leading workforce development credentialing experts, including Blondin, will discuss the importance of incorporating credentials that measure and validate competencies and skills mastered into educational programs of studies. Clark County just became the second county in Ohio to receive the “Workforce Readiness” designation from ACT.

ELF Kicks Off the Holiday Season at the Clark State Performing Arts Center

The Clark State Community College Performing Arts Center will present ELF The Musical, Thursday, November 9 at 7:30 p.m. Based on the beloved holiday movie, ELF The Musical is the hilarious tale of Buddy, a young orphan child who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported back to the North Pole. Unaware that he is actually human, Buddy’s enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father, discover his true identity and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.

Clark State to Honor Military Veterans with Week of Activities

Clark State Community College will commemorate Veterans Day with various campus activities next week including the display of 2,000 United States flags at the Springfield, Beavercreek and Bellefontaine campuses. The POW/MIA flag will be raised at the Springfield Leffel Lane campus. Clark State Community College will be closed Friday, November 10 in honor of Veterans Day.

Clark State Expands Growing Precision Ag Program into New Airport Hangar

Clark State Community College now officially occupies an airplane hangar at Springfield-Beckley Airport Business Park. The Ohio Center of Precision Agriculture Hangar was dedicated at a ceremony held on Tuesday, October 31. The hangar at the airport will be utilized for a variety of projects all related to the use of unmanned aerial systems (UAS). The hangar will also be outfitted with a small, state-of-the-art computer lab.
