Clark State Launches Project Grey Literature, Provides Elderly with Reading Materials

Clark State Community College has launched Project Grey Literature, a program designed to provide reading material to local retirement and assisted living communities. Project Grey Literature is the brainchild of Dr. Sterling Coleman, director of library services for Clark State, who said he initiated the program because of a glaring need he noticed while visiting fellow church members in an assisted living facility.

Clark State Nursing Grad Assisting with Hurricane Rescue Efforts in Houston

Clark State Community College-Springfield Regional School of Nursing graduate Kyle Scarbrough followed his heart into Houston, Texas, to assist with rescue efforts in the wake of Hurricane Harvey this week. Scarbrough graduated from Clark State in May 2016. Scarbrough said he helped about 10-12 families in the neighborhoods of Cinco Ranch, Richmond and Caty, Texas.

Clark State Community College will hold a fall semester “Welcome Back” event for new and returning students from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 6 in the Karen E. Rafinski Student Center. The Welcome Back event will feature food, music, information about community and college resources, games and small prizes.

Clark State Theatre Arts Program to Hold Auditions for Fall Production of King Lear

Clark State Community College will hold auditions for the Theatre Arts Program’s fall production of King Lear. Auditions are open to the public and will be held September 5 and 6 at 7 p.m. at the Clark State Performing Arts Center, Turner Studio Theatre, 300 South Fountain Avenue, Springfield. Performances of King Lear will be held October 27, 28, November 3 and 4 at 7 p.m. There will be a 2 p.m. matinee on October 29 and November 5.

Clark State Students and Graduates Awarded Scholarships

Clark State Community College nursing student Michael Wilson was selected to receive a $1,500 Dayton STEM-Workforce Scholarship. James Foster, a Clark State Associate of Applied Science student, is one of six recipients of the 2017 scholarship awards from the National Military Intelligence Association - Ohio Chapter. Clark State graduate and current Western Governor’s University student Melissa Fowler is the recipient of the $2,500 Ohio Community College Scholarship awarded from WGU.

Clark State Receives Precision Agriculture Research Grant

Clark State Community College has been awarded a $200,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Higher Education in order to advance collaborative research. The funds will be used for sensors and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) for the Precision Agriculture program.

Clark State Baseball Team to Host Golf Scramble

The Clark State Community College Eagles baseball team will host a golf scramble on Saturday, September 16 at Locust Hills Golf Club in Springfield. Clark State Director of Athletics and Student Life Justin McCulla said the funds raised from the golf scramble will be used towards field updates, facility rentals, equipment upgrades, new uniforms and the spring trip to Tennessee to play Division I NJCAA teams.

Clark State Announces Summer Semester 2017 Dean’s List

Clark State Community College has announced the names of students for the 2017 Summer Semester Dean's List. Thirteen (13) full-time students (those taking 12 or more credit hours) and two hundred ninety-two (292) part-time students (those taking 6-11 credit hours) earned a 3.5 grade point average or better to receive dean's list honors.

The Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) has selected Mellanie Toles of Clark State Community College to receive the Central Region Professional Board Staff Member Award. Toles has been with Clark State for 19 years serving as assistant to the president.

Clark State Convocation to Feature COPE Program with Think Tank of Springfield

Clark State Community College will hold a special Convocation event: “In Their Shoes” on Monday, August 14. Convocation – an annual gathering of Clark State faculty, staff and Board of Trustees – will feature a COPE simulation. The Cost of Poverty Experience training offers participants a glimpse into the lives of low-income individuals and families living in the community. Clark State will be closed for Convocation from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. on Monday, August 14.

Police Academy Cadets Graduate from Clark State

Clark State Community College held a graduation ceremony for 16 cadets of the Peace Officer Training Academy at 6 p.m. on August 2 in the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center, 275 South Limestone Street. The graduates represent the second class of cadets to complete their training in the new facility located in the Brinkman Educational Center in downtown Springfield.

Clark State Awarded Grant from ODE for STEM Pilot Program

Clark State Community College has been awarded a STEM Public-Private Pilot Program grant in the amount of $149,999 from the Ohio Department of Education. The grant supports the development of new partnerships between regional businesses, area school districts and Clark State. Clark State proposed to develop a program with area businesses and three school districts to help improve Ohio’s workforce development capacity to strengthen business and educate future Ohio workers.

Clark State to Hold First GED Graduation Ceremony, Open New ESOL Center

Clark State Community College will hold an ASPIRE graduation ceremony at 6:30 p.m., Monday, August 7 in the LRC Security National Bank Community Room 209 on the Springfield campus. More than ten students will receive their General Education Diploma. Clark State will open a new ESOL/GED program location in New Carlisle, Ohio, on August 29.

Engineering Innovation Program Concludes with Bridge Competition July 21

Clark State Community College will host the Engineering Innovation Bridge Competition at 10:15 a.m., Friday, July 21 at the Clark State Performing Arts Center. There are 19 students from five participating counties in this year’s Johns Hopkins University Engineering Innovation program at Clark State. The students attend high schools in Clark, Champaign, Logan, Greene and Montgomery counties.

Clark State to Hold RegFest Events, Register Students through Spring 2018

Clark State Community College will hold RegFest, a registration event for current students, on selected dates in July. RegFest offers students the opportunity to register for Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 classes at one time. RegFest aims to get Clark State students engaged with success coaches, faculty advisors, fellow students and student affairs staff. Students will learn how to utilize tools for course planning and financial aid.

Clark State President Launches New Mentoring Program for Employees

Clark State Community College will launch SOAR – Serving Our Own through Leadership and Retention – under the guidance of Clark State President Dr. Jo Alice Blondin this fall. The goal of the SOAR program is to develop and create leaders who are committed to serving Clark State as partners in student success. SOAR is a comprehensive professional development experience for full-time faculty and staff that provides self-assessment, leadership strengths building, mentoring and career development planning, thereby leading to stronger, more prepared leaders who will enhance Clark State’s focus on student success.
