Clark State Agriculture Land Lab Flooded with Additional Project Funding

Clark State Community College will receive $25,000 from the Community College Alliance for Agriculture Advancement (C2A3) grant for the development of soil health curriculum, supplementary materials and workshops for current students and producers. The grant will support the field days and demonstration efforts for the Soil Health Partnership Initiative with the National Corn Growers Association. There were approximately 160 initial proposals with 28 invited for a full submission. Of those submissions, 16 were selected for funding, including Clark State. Clark State received $4,812,895 from the Higher Education Improvement Fund of the Ohio State Capital Bill as passed by the House and Senate last spring; $200,000 was slated for the Precision Agriculture land laboratory.

Toni Overholser Named New Director of Clark State Foundation

Clark State Community College has appointed Toni Overholser as director of the Clark State Foundation. Overholser has been with Clark State since 2014. She has served in the capacity of director of workforce development and the director of business and community development. The Clark State Foundation seeks to ensure that a high-quality college education is accessible to all. The Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that creates and maintains community awareness and partners with donors to receive, manage and disburse gifts that initiate and support educational and cultural programs for Clark State and its constituents.

Clark State Students Saved More than $372,000 with Implementation of Virtual Bookstore

Clark State Community College continues to maintain a quality, affordable education for students. Just one year following the implementation of the eCampus bookstore, Clark State announced a student savings of $372,253.00. eCampus is an online bookstore format that allows students the option to purchase new or used textbooks, electronic versions, rentals or purchase directly from other students. Through eCampus, Clark State students are able to ship books to their home or to one of Clark State’s campus locations. Books are shipped for a fixed cost of $5 regardless of the number of books ordered.

Clark State Calls for Public Comment Prior to Evaluation by Higher Learning Commission

Clark State Community College will host a team from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) on December 3 and 4 of this year. Clark State has been accredited by the HLC since 1973. While visiting Clark State, the HLC team will review the institution’s continued ability to meet the HLC’s criteria for accreditation. Clark State is now seeking comments from the public about the College from all constituencies including students, parents of students, prospective students, employers, alumni, donors, elected officials, community members, community organizations and businesses. Comments must address substantive matters related to the quality of Clark State or its academic programs and be submitted no later than October 31, 2018.

New Class of Clark State Police Academy Graduates Ready to Serve, Protect

Clark State Community College will hold a graduation ceremony for cadets of the Peace Officer Training Academy at 6:30 p.m., July 31, 2018, in the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center. The graduating class represents the 50th anniversary of the academy and the third class of cadets to complete training in the new facility located in the Brinkman Educational Center in downtown Springfield. Paul Weber, commander of the Clark State Police Academy, said Clark State is sending well-trained cadets into the workforce, and he is confident they will make excellent police officers.

Clark State and University of Cincinnati Partner to Offer Four-Year IT Degree

Clark State Community College and the University of Cincinnati (UC) have entered into a second bachelor’s degree completion agreement. The agreement will put students on pace to earn a Bachelor of Science in Information Technologies CyberSecurity track from UC following their completion of an Associate of Applied Science in CyberSecurity/Information Assurance Technology from Clark State. The new agreement with UC is a 3+1 agreement, meaning students can complete their first three years of the program at Clark State tuition prices. Students benefit from the stability of working within the same environment and from the overall lower cost of the degree.

Clark State Now Offers Opportunity for Future in Robotics

Clark State Community College will introduce a new Robotics certificate program beginning Fall semester of this year. The Robotic certificate program is 24 semester hours, and graduates of the program will receive FANUC certification and Motoman certification. The Robotic certificate program prepares graduates for careers such as a robotics programmer or robotics application technologist. Yaskawa America, Inc., Motoman Robotics Division worked with Clark State to create the comprehensive Robotics certification program with a focus on web-based curriculum designed specifically for educators and students.

Clark State Celebrates 25 Years of the Performing Arts Center with Diverse Season, Red Carpet Gala

The Clark State Community College Performing Arts Center will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a diverse schedule of events and performances to commemorate the establishment of the landmark venue in Springfield, Ohio. The Performing Arts Center (PAC) will kick-off the 2018-19 season on September 14 with an Evening of Jazz with Graham Breedlove, followed by the Circle of Friends Gala featuring the National Broadway Tour of Jersey Boys on September 29. The 2018-19 season will feature four National Broadway Tours and the return of The Illusionists. Tickets for the Clark State Performing Arts Center 2018-19 season events go on sale July 16 at ticketmaster.com.

Clark State Will Offer Registered Nursing Program at Beavercreek Campus

Clark State Community College will begin offering the Registered Nursing program at the Greene Center campus in Beavercreek this fall semester. The day-program will feature a new, eight-bed laboratory with simulation-capable manikins. Clark State’s Registered Nursing program is a competitive entry program. Students accepted into the Beavercreek cohort can complete the program at the Greene Center. Clinical requirements may include placements outside of the Beavercreek area and will be dependent on availability.

Clark State JHU Engineering Students Building Bridges of Success

Clark State Community College will host the Engineering Innovation Bridge Competition at 10:15 a.m., Friday, July 20 at the John Legend Theater. There are 23 students from seven participating counties in this year’s Johns Hopkins University Engineering Innovation program at Clark State.The Johns Hopkins Engineering Innovation program has been offered at Clark State for four years thanks to philanthropist Rosalyn Bullock in honor of her late husband Willis Bullock.

Clark State Will Recognize 26 Students at Aspire Graduation

Clark State Community College will host a graduation ceremony for 26 Aspire students on Thursday, July 19 at the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center. Nine English as a Second Language (ESOL) students will also be recognized for their English language growth. Clark State’s Aspire programs are designed to help students achieve their goals through free career exploration, education and training.

Clark State Performing Arts Center Volunteers Earn College Credit for Hard Work, Dedication to Arts

Volunteer work at the Clark State Performing Arts Center (PAC) has never been more rewarding. New this year, 19 PAC volunteers were awarded a scholarship worth three college credit hours at Clark State Community College. PAC volunteers work as ushers and floor managers during scheduled performances. Responsibilities include ticket scanning, ushering, greeting, directing patrons to the correct door to enter the auditorium for their seat location, coat check and assisting with special needs.

Clark State Announces Dean’s List for Spring 2018

Clark State Community College has announced the names of students who achieved the 2018 Spring Semester Dean's List. Two hundred seventy-six (276) full-time students (those taking 12 or more credit hours) and nine hundred sixty-nine (969) part-time students (those taking 6-11 credit hours) earned a 3.5 grade point average or better to receive dean's list honors.

Clark State’s Landmark Building Under Renovation

Renovations are officially under way in Rhodes Hall on the main campus of Clark State Community College in Springfield. Clark State received $2.6 million for the renovation from the Higher Education Improvement Fund of the Ohio State Capital Bill passed by the House and Senate earlier this year. A total of 48,000 square feet will be renovated. The last facilities update to Rhodes Hall was in the mid-90s.

Clark State’s Applied Baccalaureate Degree Approved by ODHE

Clark State Community College has received official approval from the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) for its first applied baccalaureate degree. The four-year degree in Manufacturing Technology Management will be available to students beginning in the fall semester of 2019. An applied baccalaureate degree in Manufacturing Technology Management from Clark State will prepare incumbent workers in the manufacturing industry or those interested in pursuing a career in manufacturing to acquire both technical and supervisory skills that will result in a well-paying job in the region.

Registration Open for College for Kids and Teens at Clark State

Clark State Community College is currently accepting registrations for the 2018 College for Kids and Teens summer programming. College for Kids and Teens offers more than ten class and day camp opportunities, each developed for student enrichment. The five-week schedule consists of different programs each week. The activities provide opportunities for students to explore new areas of interest, stretch their imagination or cultivate a skill.

Felder Promoted to Senior Vice President for Student Success at Clark State Community College

Dr. Theresa Felder, vice president of student affairs and Greene Center operations for Clark State Community College has been promoted to senior vice president for student success. Effective May 25, Felder will have responsibility for guiding the newly revised strategic plan in addition to leading and managing all of operations for student affairs. Felder will be based out of the Clark State campus in Springfield but will continue to oversee student services at all Clark State campuses.

Clark State Names Larry Wakefield as Vice President of Business Affairs

Clark State Community College has appointed Larry Wakefield to the position of vice president of business affairs. Wakefield has served twice as interim vice president of business affairs for Clark State since December of 2016. Wakefield grew up and attended college in Knoxville, Tennessee. He spent most of his career in financial management positions at public universities in Tennessee and Georgia, and retired in September 2016 after ten years as vice president for fiscal affairs at Albany State University in Georgia.
