Clark State Invites Public Comment on Associate Degree Nursing Program Prior to Upcoming Accreditation Review Visit by ACEN

The Clark State Community College-Springfield Regional School of Nursing will host a site visit for continuing accreditation of its associate degree nursing program by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). The public is invited to meet the ACEN site visit team and share comments about the program in person on September 18. Written comments are also encouraged and must be received by the ACEN by September 3, 2019.

Clark State Trustee Jim Doyle Elected Chair of Ohio Association of Community Colleges Governing Board

Clark State Community College Board of Trustees member, Jim Doyle, has been elected chair of the Ohio Association of Community Colleges (OACC) Board of Trustees. This appointment makes Doyle the second Clark State Trustee to be elected to this position following Maureen Grady in 1990. Doyle is active in both the OACC and the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT). Doyle has been a staunch advocate for community colleges with state and federal legislators.

Clark State Selected for Exemplary Non-Credit Program Award by National Council for Workforce Education

Clark State Community College was selected by the National Council for Workforce Education (NCWE) for the Exemplary Non-Credit Program Award for its ISO9001 training. The Clark State ISO 9001 training program launched in 2017 and has served around 50 companies. This has resulted in 1,500 jobs through layoff aversion or new positions created. Clark State will be honored at the NCWE Annual Conference in San Antonio, Texas on October 8.

Ohio State Auditor Keith Faber to Visit Clark State Wednesday, July 31

Clark State Community College will host Auditor of State Keith Faber on Wednesday, July 31. Faber is Ohio’s 33rd Auditor of State. From 2001-2018, he served Ohioans in the state legislature, including time as President of the Ohio Senate. Faber will be meeting with Blondin and key faculty, staff, and students at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 31 at Clark State’s main campus in Springfield.

Clark State Police Academy to Celebrate 50 Years with Reception, Graduation Ceremony

Clark State Community College will celebrate 50 years of the Basic Peace Officer Training Academy with an anniversary reception on August 1, 2019. The 50th Anniversary Reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center in downtown Springfield, Ohio. The graduation ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the adjacent Clark State Performing Arts Center. All Clark State Police Academy graduates are encouraged to join in the 50th Anniversary celebration. There is no cost to attend.

New Coach Brings Experience to Clark State Volleyball Program, Try-Outs This Week

Clark State Community College welcomed Angie Arthur as the new head coach of women’s volleyball. Angie began her coaching career at Olive Branch Middle School and then moved up to the junior varsity position at Tecumseh High School. From there, Arthur went on to coach varsity at Emmanuel Christian Academy. She has also coached volleyball for Kenton Ridge High School and the Sharks Volleyball Club. The Clark State women’s volleyball season will begin in August. Tryouts will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 9 and Thursday, July 11 in the Clark State gymnasium.

Clark State Receives Grant to Further Develop CyberSecurity Program

Clark State Community College will receive a $620,000 grant from the Department of Defense - Office of Economic Adjustment to further develop CyberSecurity education programming. The funds are available immediately. Clark State has a CyberSecurity/Information Assurance program, which was approved by the Ohio Board of Regents in 2008. This program is an Associate of Applied Science degree that aligns itself with several IT industry certifications.

Clark State Selected as Corporate Partner with Bane-Welker, First in the State of Ohio

The Clark State Diesel Technology program has been selected as a corporate partner for Case IH via Bane-Welker. This partnership will allow the Diesel program to receive three new pieces of equipment for students and teachers to utilize in the classroom for instructional purposes. Clark State will receive three tractors throughout the year, with one rotating in every three months. The equipment and tools will educate instructors and students on the operation and application of the Case IH agricultural machinery.

Disc Golf Course Coming to Clark State Campus

Clark State Community College student Joshua Trapp is an avid player of disc golf; his passion for this trendy, growing sport led him to envision a nine-hole disc golf course (DGC) on Clark State’s Springfield campus. Trapp designed a course layout, wrote a proposal and pitched the idea to the Student Senate and executive council; with approval from both, Trapp’s vision is now becoming a reality. Trapp said they hope to have the disc golf course installed and ready for play at the beginning of the fall semester.

Project Jericho HOMEGROWN: 2019 Summer Arts Camp

Project Jericho hosted its annual Summer Arts Camp June 17-21, 2019, at Clark State Community College. During the week-long camp, participants learned about plants, herbs and flowers that are locally grown. Three professional artists led in-depth arts programming that explored ceramics, illustration and acrylic painting. On Tuesday, June 25 from 12-1:30 p.m. the community is invited to attend a celebration at the Clubhouse at Snyder Park celebrating the artwork and achievements of the 2019 Summer Arts Camp artists.

Clark State Performing Arts Center Volunteer to Retire after 25 Years

The Clark State Community College Performing Arts Center (PAC) celebrated 25 years of entertainment with the 2018-19 season, and 90-year-old volunteer Phyllis Wakley has been a part of its history since day one. This summer, she will retire. Wakley said she was encouraged by a friend to join the PAC as a volunteer when the venue opened.

Clark State Scholars Program Continues Growth, Seeks Mentors for Students

The Clark State Community College Foundation Scholars program is now seeking mentors. In addition to the Springfield City Schools, the Scholars program has expanded to Graham and Urbana Middle Schools. This year, the program has welcomed the Clark-Shawnee District and the Tecumseh Local Schools District. The Scholars program is now seeking mentors.

Clark State Student-Athlete Anarra Williams Honored for Sportsmanship of the Year by OCCAC

Clark State Community College student-athlete Anarra Williams was honored by the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) with Sportsmanship of the Year Award accolades. She in one of only five student-athletes to receive this recognition. Williams plays center for the Clark State Eagles women’s basketball team. Williams will speak at the Clark State Board of Trustees meeting about her experience at Clark State as a student-athlete.

Clark State Launches Debt Forgiveness Program for Qualified Returning Students

Clark State Community College has launched The New Beginning program focused on assisting former students who have an outstanding balance with the College but are considerably close to completing their degree. Candidates for the program include former students who are within two terms of completing their program of study, hold a GPA of 2.0 or higher, are in good academic and conduct standing and have an outstanding tuition balance.

Enrollment Now Open for Clark State’s First Baccalaureate Degree Program

Enrollment is now open for Clark State Community College’s first applied bachelor’s degree program. The four-year degree in Manufacturing Technology Management is officially available to students beginning in the fall semester of this year. The applied bachelor's degree Manufacturing Technology Management complements Clark State’s existing certificates and associate degrees.

Clark State Announces Dean’s List for Spring 2019

Clark State Community College has announced the names of students who achieved the 2019 Spring Semester Dean's List. Two hundred twenty-two (222) full-time students (those taking 12 or more credit hours) and seven hundred six (706) part-time students (those taking 6-11 credit hours) earned a 3.5 grade point average or better to receive dean’s list honors.
