Clark State Community College will host the Ohio Association of Community College’s Student Success Leadership Institute (SSLI) on Thursday, April 27 at the Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center in downtown Springfield. Approximately 200 attendees are expected, representing 23 community colleges in Ohio.

Clark State Community College hosted two new events at the Springfield campus aimed at training faculty, staff and students to learn more about the hearing impaired and LGBTQA communities. An American Sign Language (ASL) event was held April 21. The event allowed Clark State students enrolled in ASL courses to interact with the deaf community. The Clark State Diversity Committee again partnered with Wright State University April 7 to offer faculty and staff training on supporting the LGBTQA community.

Project Jericho and Clark County Solid Waste District will team up to bring awareness to the recycling center located at 1602 West Main Street. Colorado muralist Mariah Kaminsky will work with youth in our community to not only reclaim and restore a wall, but also create a light for a neighborhood and our entire community.

The Clean House will open tonight, April 13, at the Clark State Community College Performing Arts Center. The Clark State Theatre Arts Program has been rehearsing since January for the spring production of the play by Sarah Ruhl. The Clean House will begin at 8 p.m. in the Clark State Performing Arts Center’s Turner Studio Theatre, 300 South Fountain Avenue in Springfield, April 13-15 and April 20-22 with a matinee performance on April 23 at 2 p. m.

A scholarship program for Clark State Community College alumni and staff was just announced by Western Governors University (WGU). Students that have graduated with an associate degree or staff who are employed at Clark State Community College are now eligible to apply for the WGU Ohio Community College Scholarship.

Clark State Community College will honor Pauline Chakeres and her late husband Michael with the prestigious Founder’s Award at this year’s Circle of Friends Gala on April 15. The Founder’s Award is in memory of Barbara and Richard Kuss. Mr. and Mrs. Chakeres founded Chakeres Theaters, the oldest independent motion picture exhibitor in Ohio and Kentucky.

The Clark State Community College youth program College for Kids is now College for Kids and Teens. Students in kindergarten through grade 12 have the opportunity to attend week-long summer classes that meet two to three hours each day, or week-long day camps that last six hours each day. The College for Kids and Teens program has also expanded to Greene County this year.

Farmers Equipment, located in Urbana, Ohio, has provided Clark State with a Case IH 240CVT tractor equipped with precision guidance.

Steve McInturff has joined Clark State Community College as the new head coach of the women’s volleyball team. McInturff grew up in Champaign County, Ohio, graduated from the Columbus College of Art and Design and has coached at several local high schools including Urbana, Kenton Ridge and the former Springfield North.

The Jim Witter concert is part of the annual Clark State Circle of Friends Gala in support of events at the Performing Arts Center. Witter, along with special guest Tiffany Desrosiers, will present “Fire and Rain: The Songs of James Taylor and Carole King.”

President and CEO of Community Mercy Health Partners (CMHP) and Vice President of Mercy Health Matthew Caldwell will bring the real world of healthcare into the classroom at Clark State Community College on Thursday, March 16. Caldwell will present “Nursing: Caring for Our Community” to nursing students at Clark State. He will also discuss opportunities with CMHP, including the Student Nurse Apprenticeship Program (SNAP) and Accelerated Clinical Education (ACE).

Clark State Community College has been named as one of three finalists for the 2017 American Association of Community College (AACC) Safety, Planning and Leadership Award of Excellence. The College is constantly working to improve safety and security on its campuses. Clark State had no crimes in 2015, as reported for the 2015 Jeanne Clery Annual Campus Security Report. The College strives to continue to keep crime low while training its faculty and staff to react to potential emergency situations.

Clark State Community College will hold a first-of-its-kind registration event for current students in March and April. RegFest will showcase how students can register for summer 2017, fall 2017 and spring 2018 classes all at one time. Students are able to learn to navigate Financial Aid Self-Service (FASS), an online interactive resource that gives students a dashboard view of their financial aid status and provides a check list and information about satisfactory academic progress.

Clark State Community College will introduce a Banking program option with the start of the fall semester this year. The new program falls under the management umbrella and focuses on preparing students for a career in the banking industry. Students will have the option of an associate degree and/or two certificates. The creation of the program was community driven and is designed to prepare students to meet the demands of banking in local branches.
